Definition 

Employees in this class are under close supervision. Work performed in implementing specific instructions in setting up routine laboratory experiments for beginning level undergraduate courses and performing related work as required. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Sets up laboratory equipment for experiments as instructed.

Fills unknown containers with proper substances which may involve weighing, measuring, and mixing.

Keeps stockroom supplied with necessary items.

Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.

Cleans laboratory tables, washes and/or sterilizes glassware.

Sees that acid and base bottles are filled.

Performs other work as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of safety precautions and basic laboratory procedures.

Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions carefully and completely.

Ability to use required laboratory tools and equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees. 

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school.
