Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in ordering, stocking and recording chemical supplies and equipment, checking in and out supplies for students and teachers, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Requisitions chemicals, microscopes and other related items.
Stocks and inventories supplies.
Checks in and out supplies used by students and teachers.
Performs minor repairs on equipment.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic chemicals, projectors, and other related equipment in Science departments.
Knowledge of necessary safety precautions in handling certain chemicals.
Knowledge of basic English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of basic inventory methods.
Ability to keep accurate records of inventory.
Ability to handle laboratory chemicals safely.
Ability to perform minor repairs on simple laboratory equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, students, and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in biology and/or chemistry. Some experience as a stock clerk.
