Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in assisting in mail disbursement, postage billing, coordinating telephone service for the college, maintenance of inventory records for college equipment, assisting in the receipt and delivery of stores supplies and equipment, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures that college mail is picked up from Post Office and disbursed to correct college locations.
Posts daily postage charges to appropriate accounts; reports volume of mailings to Post Office; reports monthly postage charges to Purchasing Agent; and balances postage accounts.
Receives requests for new and/or altered telephone service; communicates requests to the telephone company and monitors work of telephone company; and audits telephone billings from phone company; makes changes in the telephone system through the use of computer terminal.
Tags new equipment, enters detailed listings of equipment into computer to maintain inventory records; performs annual physical inventory; assists in the reconciliation of equipment inventoried to the inventory control account; and performs related inventory tasks.
Assists in the pick-up, storage and/or delivery of furniture, equipment, and other property items.
Assists in the filling and delivery of stores orders to college departments; assists with the annual inventory of stores supply area.
Drive delivery van or truck in performance of duties; perform related work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of postal regulations and procedures.
Knowledge of college personnel locations.
Knowledge of postal billing and maintenance of accounts.
Knowledge of inventory procedures and recordkeeping.
Knowledge of telephone company services, charges and equipment.
Ability to use appropriate postage equipment.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to lift/carry light to heavy weights.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Some experience in inventory control and working with the public. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator license.
