Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in organizing and assigning various maintenance work to the proper work units, inspecting and supervising the work in progress, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Determines what work unit should be assigned various job or work orders and assigns to proper work unit.
Records the time that all jobs are started and completed to maintain records of time spent on each job.
Reads blueprints and specifications to estimate the materials and supplies that will be required to do a job.
Makes on-site inspections of jobs to determine what materials and supplies were actually used as well as inspecting quality of work.
Orders materials and supplies as needed for various jobs.
Confers with higher level supervisor concerning problems with work assignment or personnel.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the materials, methods and principles used in a variety of construction and maintenance jobs and projects.
Knowledge of accepted construction methods to determine the cost of a particular job.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to assign, supervise, and inspect the work of others.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and convincingly.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in a variety of construction and maintenance work of which some experience must have been at a supervisory level.
