Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in assisting the daily operations of a Student Health Center and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assists nurses and physicians in their daily administration of students medical needs.
Performs EKG's when necessary.
Reviews and maintains students' records of measles vaccines (MMR). Removes student registration hold upon receipt of medical statement.
Sterilizes all medical surgical instruments including kits, surgical towels.
Maintains and records time worked by work study students. Prepares and submits payroll time reports for Health Center employees.
Types correspondence, memoranda, medical reports, charts, purchase requisitions and fliers for medical and office staff.
Assembles data and assists in preparing various reports related to medical procedures.
Provides information to callers or routes to appropriate personnel.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Knowledge of data entry and record keeping.
Ability to operate and read medical equipment and data accurately.
Ability to learn and perform necessary patient basic care and assistance.
Ability to perform clerical tasks independently.
Ability to answer questions regarding claims, coverage and payments.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, students, and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. One year of experience or training in basic care and assistance is desirable. Graduation from a standard high school.
