Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in patrolling assigned parking areas to ensure that rules and regulations are adhered to and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Utilizes state-of-the- art, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled mobile ticketing computers and printers to accurately issue tickets to parking violators in accordance with the university's parking and traffic regulations.
Utilizes photography technology necessary for Traffic Court and administrative functions.
Assists visitors, students, and staff in finding appropriate and available parking.
Remains knowledgeable in and understands all campus parking and traffic regulations as well as changes and/or special considerations.
Serves as a campus ambassador while on patrol and provides accurate information regarding direction, parking locations, campus information and special events.
Monitors campus parking and traffic areas and reports to the Parking Office any issues regarding disabled/abandoned vehicles, as well as vehicles with issues such as lights left on, flat tires, etc.
Monitors lot parking numbers in order to maintain accurate information generated by campus automated count systems, which relay up-to-the-minute information on available parking via website application technology and physical information marquees.
Observes lots and traffic areas for wear and tear issues or damage to lots, walkways, roads, signs, etc., and reports such to the
Monitors and repairs all campus parking meters.
Withdraws meter monies weekly and is responsible for bank deposit of meter monies and appropriate receipting.
Provides traffic control and lot monitoring for various university and community events on campus.
Conducts daily traffic safety enforcement assistance to the university K-12 school on campus.
Assists Financial Services in notification process for delinquent faculty/staff financial accounts.
Provides office delivery and clerical assistance as needed, including distribution of visitor and temporary parking permits at drive-through window, transport of departmental financial deposits, and preparation of mass mailing for permit distribution.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of campus parking and traffic regulations.
Knowledge of the geography, parking layout, and building locations on campus.
Ability to read, comprehend and articulate all parking and traffic policies.
Ability to enforce parking rules and regulations tactfully and firmly.
Ability to operate a gold cart motor vehicle in the performance of duties.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Ability to perform in stressful work conditions, while remaining calm and professional.
Ability to deescalate challenging confrontations.
Ability to analyze situations and respond accordingly with regard to established policies and procedures.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school or GED. Possession of a valid Tennessee operator's license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety. Criminal background check required.
