Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in assisting with the payroll functions and responsibilities of the institution and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Posts entries to books from supporting records, makes adjusting entries, and prepares financial statements on standardized forms.
Prepares financial statements and standardized forms.
Prepares payrolls and figures garnishments.
Composes letters and correspondence.
Calculates premiums for staff insurance.
Reconciles bank balances and other financial statements.
Keeps records and makes reports.
Advises new employees concerning benefits and personnel policies and procedures.
Prepares and reviews employee health insurance, retirement, and credit union transactions.
Verifies personnel transactions for completeness and accuracy.
Keeps up-to-date files on all personnel.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of public personnel administration.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately.
Ability to type accurately from plain copy or rough draft.
Ability to maintain up-to-date files.
Ability to explain and interpret insurance programs for employees.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by a course in typing. Experience in which a general knowledge of personnel transactions is learned.
