Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in preparing lithographic printing plates and photographing art designs. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Chooses plate size according to job specifications.
Operates lithographic platemaking machine.
Removes plate from frame, places in developer sink, and pours chemical solution over plate.
Photographs art designs from camera-ready art work.
Operates photocomposing (vacuum frame) machine.
Develops film by immersing negative in chemical solution.
Uses drafting tools and instruments such as T-square, triangles, art brushes, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Skill in use of drafting tools and instruments.
Skill and photograph and film developing.
Knowledge of principles and techniques of platemaking.
Skill in operation of photographic and platemaking devices.
Ability to attend to details.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; college or vocational courses in photography plus one year experience; or experience as a studio photographer plus one year additional experience in photography; or three years experience in photography.
