Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in receiving and distributing mail, selling postage stamps and cards, computing mailing costs, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Receives letters and parcels.
Sells postal stamps and cards.
Weighs parcels on scale and computes mailing cost based on weight and destination.
Sells postal money orders.
Answers questions pertaining to mail regulations or procedures.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of postal regulations and procedures.
Knowledge of how to stamp, register, and weigh mail.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Some experience in handling money and working with the public.
