Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in postal services and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises and coordinates activities of students and workers of lower classifications.
Resolves customer complaints and informs public of postal laws and regulations.
Trains student workers and others in post office procedures.
Prepares and submits financial and related reports.
Orders stamps and other post office supplies.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of postal laws, regulations, and procedures.
Knowledge of how to stamp, register and weigh mail.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of supervision.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Ability to make arithmetic computations and tabulations accurately.
Ability to instruct and supervise others.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience involving the use of bookkeeping principles and practices, preferably in the U.S. Postal Service.
