Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising, preparing, printing, scheduling projects and maintaining equipment and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises and instructs subordinates in the use of multilith offset printing press, paper cutter, perforator, binding machine, padder and plate maker.
Schedules work in order to meet deadlines.
Reviews requests for work, checks layouts and recommends changes in accordance with foreseeable reproduction problems.
Maintains supplies in the printing office.
Keeps records and prepares reports.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of printing equipment and techniques.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of supervision.
Ability to operate printing equipment and instruct others in its operation.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to coordinate printing jobs efficiently.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Experience in the printing profession including the operation of printing equipment.
