Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in planning and estimating job requirements, and fabricating metal components. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Reads blueprints, work orders, etc.
Estimates type and amount of materials and miscellaneous supplies.
Calculates size of duct to carry specified air flow by cubic feet per minute.
Bends, shapes, forms and otherwise fashions metal to build desired product.
Works as an A/C Heating Mechanic as assigned.
Repairs duct work and related components, and hangs duct work in buildings.
Uses special hand tools and machines common to metal worker's trade.
Drives truck.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to use sheet metal in construction.
Skill in the use of hand tools common to the sheet metal worker trades.
Ability to install, maintain and repair air conditioning/heating systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
Ability to solder and braze.
Skill in operating self-propelled transporting equipment (trucks, tractors, and fork lifts).
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Valid driver's license; high school graduate or equivalent; five years experience in sheet metal layout and duct work in A/C and heating; or vocational school graduate with a major in sheet metal work; or vocational school courses in sheet metal, welding, or metal shop plus one year on-the-job training as a sheet metal worker.
