Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in supervising supply operation, directing and scheduling supply personnel and maintaining inventory control. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Authorizes payment on accounts after verifying that information is correct.
Maintains a petty cash operation.
Plans and maintains stock quantities for inventory control.
Types requisitions, or various other forms or correspondence, and prepares purchase requisitions.
Supplies shop supervisors and academic departments with various forms of information (such as past usage, cost data, etc.)
Dispatches supply driver.
Evaluates bids and recommends which bid best fits needs.
Oversees annual physical inventory.
Confers with supply salesmen and manufacturers for purchasing parts and supplies.
Supervises supply personnel.
Counsels and evaluates performance of subordinates.
Trains new employees.
Performs various administrative duties such as maintaining office files, correspondence, etc.
Buys and maintains inventory control on tools and equipment needed by Physical Plant and Planning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of techniques in ordering and maintaining supplies.
Ability to work with numbers and other numerical operations.
Knowledge of stock inventory methods and procedures.
Ability to attend to details.
Administrative and supervisory ability.
Ability to type.
Ability to express ideas both orally and in writing.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; two years experience involving receiving, storing, and inventory control; type 35 wpm; experience with computerized inventory control system preferred; supervisory experience preferred.
