Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in assigning students to on-campus jobs, coordinating the student work program regarding payroll, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Explains the student work program to interested and eligible students concerning their responsibilities in the program, salaries, hours, etc.
Assigns students to on-campus jobs.
Completes necessary forms concerning the work assignments and distributes and/or maintains as needed.
Insures that working students are placed on the payroll by coding the computer.
Maintains a running balance of each department's expenditures to date for the program.
Reviews the CWSP printout to insure that every student awarded a work program is working and that no student is exceeding their allotted amount.
Answers correspondence and phone calls from departments concerning their budget, assignment of student workers, terminations, etc.
Evaluates data from student applications for available programs to determine eligibility.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic student work program administration procedures and practices.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of the application of bookkeeping principles to routine transactions.
Ability to perform light typing.
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, the students and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in general office practices and bookkeeping. Some experience in the secretarial/clerical field.
