Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in operating automatic bindery machines and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Determines binding requirements and estimates production time.
Folds, trims, glues, stitches, perforates, assembles and/or collects paper stock to produce bound or folded items.
Operates automatic bindery machines and equipment such as making adjustments to machine parts, monitoring production, and cleaning, oiling and lubricating moving parts.
Makes work and training assignments for helpers.
Checks work for completeness and correctness.
Maintains paper stock inventory.
Receives and verifies shipments.
Performs miscellaneous duties such as shelving paper, wrapping and labeling bound materials, and collating.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to set up and operate automatic bindery machines and equipment.
Ability to plan, schedule, and lay-out work.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance for bindery equipment.
Ability to attend to details.
Ability to follow written instructions.
Ability to make fine highly controlled hand movements required to adjust the positions of a controlled mechanism.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; minimum of three years experience in operating automatic bindery machines and equipment.
