Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in ascertaining communications needs, analyzing telephone equipment utilization, and recommending telecommunications services.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Examines requests for service and equipment inventories to determine if capacity exists for the service and practicability of the request. Consults with users to ascertain communications needs.
Advises user on selection and utilization of services, recommending alternatives if requested service cannot be completed.
Quotes rates for equipment. Writes orders, providing service requirements and equipment assignments for work to be completed.
Examines available equipment, services, and traffic studies to analyze institution's communications needs and determine efficient utilization of telephone facilities.
Determines need to add capacity for telephone services.
Maintains related records.
Explains equipment usage and demonstrates equipment.
Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of telephone services and equipment.
Ability to advise users on selection and utilization of equipment and services.
Ability to identify institution's need for increased capacity and determine efficient utilization of telephone facilities.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to maintain related records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent. Experience in increasingly responsible office work, including sophisticated recordkeeping. Experience in communications systems is helpful.
