Definition
Employees in this class are under close supervision. Work performed in repair and maintenance of telecommunications equipment. Performs related duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with diagnose and repair of station wiring and apparatus.
Complete installations, repairs, maintenance and/or calibrations on telecommunications equipment as instructed.
Read diagrams, schematics, blueprints and technical manuals for repair and diagnostic information.
Perform a variety of telecommunications test and checks utilizing telecommunications test equipment as instructed.
Inspect and/or install station wiring, apparatus and systems as instructed.
Maintain cable and equipment records as instructed.
Use CRT to make less complex update of switch system software as instructed.
Perform related work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Basic knowledge of current digital electronic theory or current computer maintenance technology.
Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in telecommunications work.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Ability to apply digital electronic theory or computer maintenance technology to telecommunications systems.
Ability to use telecommunications systems schematics, diagrams, etc. for diagnosing and troubleshooting.
Ability to assist with repair, maintenance and installation of telecommunications equipment.
Ability to maintain records on equipment and equipment maintenance.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to assist with inspection of equipment for upkeep requirements.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in
this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if
they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully.
Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by courses in current
digital electronics or current computer maintenance technology. Successful work experience
in the field of telecommunications or related field.
