Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in operating trucks (1 to 4 ton capacity) to transfer items from one area to another and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Drives truck (1 to 4 ton capacity) to transport items to and from specified destinations.
Sees that assigned truck is properly loaded.
Inspects the equipment for mechanical problems and sees that these problems are corrected.
Assembles and disassembles items that are being transported.
Supervises as required and helps load and unload trucks.
Cleans equipment and tools.
Performs other work as required.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of practices and procedures involved in the use of assigned vehicles.
Knowledge of state and local traffic regulations.
Knowledge of the care and use of equipment.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to operate assigned vehicles on campus as well as in regular highway usage.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable climactic conditions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Successful completion of the tenth grade. Experience in operating a truck (1 to 4 ton capacity). Possession of a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Public Safety.
