Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in developing and implementing crime prevention programs; researching and recommending community policing methods; collecting, compiling and submitting crime reports; researching, writing and submitting grant proposals; performing as a crime specialist; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and implements crime prevention programs and techniques for campus community.
Acts as liaison with student affairs and housing offices.
Researches and recommends community policing methods and techniques applicable to campus community.
Collects and compiles daily, monthly and annual crime statistics.
Submits monthly crime reports to TBI.
Updates and posts annual Campus Security Report.
Prepares crime trend analysis.
Ensures compliance with Cleary Act requirements.
Researches grant funding opportunities and writes and submits grant proposals.
Monitors existing grants and submits mandated reports to granter.
Performs as crime scene specialist and responds on-call to crime scenes.
Collects and preserves evidence.
Photographs crime scenes.
Maintains computerized evidence inventory.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the court system and presentation of evidence in court proceedings.
Knowledge of the campus policies, city, county and state laws.
Knowledge of modern police practices and methods used in crime investigations and the identification and presentation of physical evidence.
Knowledge of the geographic area of campus.
Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment.
Ability in using word processing software applications and online systems.
Ability in use of business English.
Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written terms.
Ability in organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks required for own work.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to ascertain facts through personal contact and observation and to determine proper course of action.
Skill in basic mathematics.
Ability to work independently.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent required; TIBRS certification required; four years office or police experience required; general office and computer skills required. Must possess a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
