Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed includes coordinating the flow of data, and scrutinizing the input and output of a computer operation. Other related work is contingent on the particular system of operation.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Receive incoming jobs from computer users and screen these for accuracy and consistency, utilizing both computer operation guidelines as well as specifications established by the user.
Check job control language instructions and from this utilize correct program and input files.
Distribute input to proper section in operations.
Monitor work input and output to insure it is correct as to format, form numbers, number of copies, etc.
Investigate and reconcile discrepancies and inaccuracies.
Develop solutions to problems that occur in computer operations pertaining to job control language instructions, program checks, tapes, date cards, etc.
Update TLBL and DLBL cards and verify deck sequence for job stream processing for jobs already set up.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of computer operations and job control language.
Knowledge of flow chart criteria and ability to implement a job based on this criteria.
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating problem situations and in making decisions to correct these problems.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate different unit records equipment.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school or GED certification, supplemented by courses in computer operations, data processing, and modern office procedures. Two years experience in computer operations; specific experience in programming and job control preferred but not required. Experience in the use of keypunch machine, collator, sorter and deliver.
