Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in the operation and monitoring of the computer to process business or other data and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Processes work programmed for the computer.
Selects and loads input and output units with materials such as tapes or punch cards.
Observes machines and control panel on computer consoles for error lights, verification printout, error messages, machine stoppage or faulty output.
Wires control panels of peripheral equipment.
Moves switches to clear system and start operation of equipment.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the theory and concept employed in processing data by an electronic computer.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of maintaining a magnetic tape library.
Knowledge of computers and related equipment.
Ability to follow instructions of a moderately complex nature.
Ability to process computer operation jobs effectively and efficiently.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school, including or supplemented by courses in computer operations and modern office procedures. Experience in computer operations.
