Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision in a training environment. Work performed in assisting a programmer and programming various systems for a computer, and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Develops or assists in developing programs for various systems, such as accounting, payrolls, etc.
Prepares or assists in preparing flow charts and block diagrams for procedures.
Tests prepared programs on a computer.
Maintains or assists in maintaining existing programs.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of the basic concepts of modern computer technology and programming.
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Ability to learn the practices, procedures and equipment used in computer operations.
Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Completion of basic courses in computer science at a trade or technical school desired.
