Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in operating word processing equipment and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Inputs text into a CRT terminal or keyboard to be stored on disks, cards, tapes, etc.
Revises text in machine, as directed.
May type some technical work containing mathematical equations, tables, charts, etc.
Organizes text into pleasing format.
Prints requested copies, envelopes, forms, etc. on one-unit machines or on separate printer.
Alters variables to produce accurate individual copies.
Maintains record files of imputed data.
Transcribes dictation from machine.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Ability to work independently on a variety of responsible clerical tasks.
Knowledge of modern word processing equipment operation.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in
this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if
they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully.
Graduation from a standard high school including or supplemented by experience or
courses in general office practices and word processing equipment operation.
