Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in a word processing center operating word processing equipment in the production of complex data/text which may be published and performing related work as required.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Inputs complex and technical data/text into CRT terminal or keyboard to be stored on disks, cards, tapes, etc. Work includes mathematical equations, tables, charts, etc. on a regular basis.
Revises text in a machine as directed.
Organizes text into pleasing format.
Prints requested copies, envelopes, forms, etc. on one-unit machine or on a separate printer.
Alters variables to produce accurate individual copies.
Transcribes dictation from machine.
Maintains record files of imputed data.
Performs other work as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of business English and arithmetic.
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Ability to work independently on a variety of responsible clerical tasks.
Knowledge of modern word processing equipment operation.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public, and other employees.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Graduation from a standard high school. Some experience in operation of a word processor.
