Definition
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in overseeing Word Processing Center and satellite operations, controlling or handling certain office operations, and operating word processors. Performs other duties as assigned.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Schedules productional clerical assignments.
Receives, reviews and distributes work for word processing, copying, offset duplication, distribution or mailout.
Spotchecks for correct format, use of procedures, etc.
Orients and trains new operators.
Instructs and demonstrates operation of word processors and other equipment.
Handles calls, complaints, and problems over typing errors, rush or confidential jobs, etc.
Orders supplies for productional business equipment.
Maintains or assures operator maintenance of word processors, copiers, etc,.
Computes and submits charges for typist's time.
Types and composes final copy on word processor from draft, notes or transcribing equipment.
Performs miscellaneous duties such as assisting customers at counter and performing general clerical duties.
Occasionally operates photo-offset duplicator.
Occasionally interviews and recommends applicants.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Skilled in operating word processing equipment.
Administrative and supervisory ability.
Verbal comprehension.
Numerical facility.
Verbal expression.
Recommended Qualifications
Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; type 55 wpm; two years clerical experience including operating a word processor; supervisory experience preferred.
