3-Year STEM OPT Programs
East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is proud to offer a diverse range of programs that qualify for the 2-year STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension. Our STEM programs are designed to provide international students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their field of study, enhancing their professional skills and expanding their career opportunities in the United States.
What is STEM OPT?
The STEM OPT extension allows international students with degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) to extend their post-graduation work authorization by an additional 24 months, beyond the standard 12-month OPT period. This provides a total of 36 months of work authorization, giving graduates the chance to gain significant practical experience in their chosen STEM fields.
