JOHNSON CITY (January 22, 2014) – The Dining Services employee at East Tennessee State University who was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis last week has been released from the hospital, according to family members. The employee is expected to be cleared to return to work sometime in February.
On Thursday, Jan. 16, a group of 10 employees who were in contact with the individual days earlier were screened by ETSU University Health Services and all were determined to be at low risk. None of those employees have since developed any related symptoms.
Common symptoms of meningitis include fever, severe and persistent headache, chills, body aches, nausea and neck stiffness. Anyone who is experiencing these symptoms should contact his or her health care provider. ETSU Student/University Health Services is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday–Friday.
