Andrew Worley
JOHNSON CITY (July 22, 2014) – Andrew Worley has been named as East Tennessee State University’s new emergency management specialist. He is the first person to hold this position.
In this role, he will be responsible for overseeing emergency management efforts for ETSU. This will include training for students, faculty and staff; maintaining responsibility for implementation of drills and exercises; managing emergency preparedness policies in accordance with state and federal agencies; and serving as a liaison with local emergency management agencies.
Worley most recently served as director of the Elizabethton-Carter County Emergency Management Agency, a position he held for over three years. During that time, he developed and maintained emergency plans for the county and also conducted training and assessment exercises. In addition, he worked with local businesses, first responders and non-profit organizations in developing emergency plans.
A native of Elizabethton, Worley is currently completing associate degree programs at Northeast State Community College and at Frederick Community College. He is certified as a course instructor for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Prior to working in Carter County, he was contracted by FEMA to assist with long-term disaster recovery efforts. During the course of seven years, he assisted with over 23 major disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita as well as other hurricanes, ice storms and floods.
He served as a member of the Carter County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications District, Elizabethton/Carter County United Way, Carter County Health Council, FEMA/United Way Board and the Covered Bridge Festival Committee.
