Millennium Center
JOHNSON CITY (Oct. 8, 2018) – East Tennessee State University is pleased to announce that the purchase of The James and Nellie Brinkley Center is complete and the facility will continue to be available for community events.
ETSU officially acquired The James and Nellie Brinkley Center from the City of Johnson City, specifically, the Johnson City Building Authority, on Oct. 1. The previous spelling of “Centre” was changed in order to maintain consistency with other buildings on campus such as the Culp Center and the forthcoming Martin Center for the Arts.
“The purchase of The James and Nellie Brinkley Center couldn’t be more timely,” said Jeremy Ross, ETSU chief operating officer. “The facility will serve the university and the community during the Culp Center renovations. Additionally, it is exciting to acquire a space that will facilitate new programs and enrollment growth.”
The James and Nellie Brinkley Center already houses ETSU’s Niswonger Digital Media Center. As part of the purchase, ETSU also took ownership of the pedestrian bridge across State of Franklin Road and the parking garage adjacent to The James and Nellie Brinkley Center.
The James and Nellie Brinkley Center opened in 1999, offering educational, event and meeting space for the public. Now under the operation of ETSU, meeting and events space in the Millennium Center remains available for reservation by entities outside the university.
