For more than a quarter-century, the Appalachian Highlands region dreamed of having a performing arts center. Through the generosity of the late James and Mary B. Martin along with the support of many friends as well as capital funding from the State of Tennessee, that dream became possible with the opening of the Martin Center for the Arts in 2021.
Now, a group of supporters is helping write the next chapter for the Martin Center,
making new dreams and opportunities possible.
The Friends of the Martin Center initiative began in 2022 to provide an opportunity for patrons and alumni to help bring top artists and musical productions – all the way from Broadway – to the ETSU campus.
“During the past year, we have hosted touring Broadway productions and amazing artists that filled the Martin Center house,” said Jennifer Clements, executive director of the Martin Center for the Arts. “We’ve hosted over 200 events throughout the year.”
In addition to Broadway touring productions of “Annie” and “Cats,” headlining artists
on the Martin Center stage have included Michael W. Smith, Melissa Ethridge, Daughtry,
Judah & the Lion, Straight No Chaser, Robert Earl Keen, Brit Floyd, Blue’s Clues and
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, among others.
“Our Friends of the Martin Center help make all this possible,” Clements said. “Gifts
to the center allow us to pursue these talented artists and pave the blue and gold
carpet for more Broadway touring shows.”
Friends of the Martin Center members receive early access to ticket sales as well as other perks and benefits depending on giving level. Membership starts at $100 and is renewable each year at these levels:
