Oluwatosin “Tosin” Ariyo has been awarded the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O) International Peace Scholarship.  The International Peace Scholarship Fund, established in 1949, is a program which provides scholarships for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the United States and Canada.

Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Oluwatosin “Tosin” Ariyo is a doctoral student in the department of the Community Health in the College of Public Health.  She has a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lee University.

Tosin stated, "I am very privileged to continuously receive mentoring and guidance from the DrPH faculty, who have been very instrumental towards my development as a female leader in Public Health, and immensely grateful to be recognized by a group of esteemed women as one who will impact the health of my home country, Nigeria."

P.E.O. was founded on January 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Today, P.E.O. has grown from that tiny membership of seven to nearly a quarter of a million members in chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada, with headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa.  Members of P.E.O. believe that education is fundamental to world peace and understanding.
