Morgan Blazer and Natalie White, two students in the Department of Biomedical Health Sciences, in the College of Public Health, presented their community-based projects at the ETSU Elevates Pitch Competition.
Ms. White’s project “Smile with NAT” is a partnership with Appalachian Miles for Smiles that distributes a children’s book written by Natalie to children in rural Appalachia. The book provides education on oral hygiene and dental care.
Ms. Blazer’s project “My Health Compass” is a partnership with the Appalachian Highlands Care Network to distribute a patient-centered toolkit that will allow patients to get maximum advantage from their visits to health care providers.
“I am incredibly proud of the work that our students are doing,” said College of Public Health Dean, Randy Wykoff “Their work is especially important because it is focused on providing effective, targeted interventions to address two serious health issues in our region.”
Launched in 2019, the ETSU Elevates program “offers students support in identifying an economic, social, or environmental issue area of their choice and coordinating with a community-based partner (agency, organization, or client) in the region to conceptualize, design, and implement a service-focused solution to their unique topic”.
