The Tennessee Institute of Public Health (TNIPH) was awarded $60,000 by the Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSPHI) to assist with offering technical assistance, training, resources, and materials as part of the Public Health Infrastructure Grant Program (PHIG). PHIG’s goal is to strengthen public health infrastructure, workforce, and data systems in communities, public health departments, and organizations across the nation.
Dr. Randy Wykoff, public health dean, said, “It is a tremendous reflection on the expertise in the Tennessee Institute of Public Health, the Tennessee Public Health Training Center and the Center for Rural Health Research, that they have been asked to help with workforce development in Mississippi.”
The institute is co-located in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health with the Center for Rural Health Research (CRHR) and the Tennessee Public Health Training Center (TNPHTC). This allows TNIPH to offer an exceptional variety of services, including flexible evidence-based technical assistance and customized services to communities, public health departments, and organizations nation-wide. TNIPH will respond to requests through the Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSIPH) to offer flexible technical assistance, quality training services, resources, and materials between August 1 and November 30, 2024.
“We are proud of the partnerships that allow us to respond directly to the needs of American public health departments and organizations,” said Ginny Kidwell, TNIPH Executive Director. “Our capacity to provide expertise, technical assistance and training is a prime example of how we best serve the public health workforce in ways that improve the health and safety of people in Tennessee and across the nation.”
