Elementary School Honoree – Andrew Carnahan
Andrew is a natural leader in kindergarten. He comes into the building and walks to his classroom all by himself every morning and he knows exactly what to do when he gets there. He is responsible for hanging up his backpack on his hook before he starts his morning table activity. Andrew comes to class every day with a smile and a can-do attitude. Other students look to him as a leader and know they can count on him to be good friend to everyone. He is the unofficial mayor of kindergarten!
Getting to know Andrew:
- What’s the grossest food you ever had to eat to be polite?
“A vanilla cupcake. It tasted nasty.”
- What’s your favorite type of music? Do you have a favorite song?
“Wild music. I like it because it’s wild!”
- What’s something you have accomplished that you are proud of?
“I made it all the way across the monkey bars at my house!”
“I love to watch Andrew puzzle through a challenge in class. Once he sets his mind to achieve something, he is tenacious and will not give up until he is satisfied with the results of his hard work,” said Mrs. Howe, Andrew’s Kindergarten teacher. “He can be very serious when he is working, but my favorite Andrew moments are when he has a breakthrough. I have seen him literally jump out of his seat when he realizes he knows an answer. His joyful reactions inspire all of us to get excited about our work.”
