The 2021 Appalachian Student Research Forum (ASRF) is Going Virtual! The ASRF is a regional competition in which participants present their original research in a formal, juried setting. Unlike past years’ forums, ASRF 2021 will take place completely online utilizing Microsoft Stream and the Digital Commons platforms. Presenters will upload their presentations and abstracts at time of registration. Judging will take place asynchronously.

REGISTRATION
Registration and Presentation Submission for the Appalachian Student Research Forum will open Monday, February 8th and close at 4:00 pm Monday, March 8, 2021. To register, please visit the ASRF Event Page hosted by Digital Commons*. Please note that you will be required to create an account in Digital Commons in order to access the ASRF Event Page where you will complete registration.
Registration and Presentation Submission Deadline:

Eligibility
All dual enrollment, undergraduate, graduate and medical students, as well as post-doctoral fellows and medical residents are eligible to participate in oral video-based presentations. The Forum is free for ETSU participants.
Presentations
- You can be the presenter on only one presentation.
- The first author is assumed to be the registered presenter.
- Presentations are limited to one presenter. Please contact us for exceptions.
Special Approvals
Did your research project involve the use of human subjects, animals, pathogens, etc.? If so, please read the Special Approvals page and speak with your faculty mentor/sponsor.
Does your presentation include any patient data? If so, read the HIPAA Compliance page and speak with your faculty mentor/sponsor.
*Please note that your abstract, title, keywords, and author names and affiliations will be published to the Digital Commons event schedule after registration has closed. This information will therefore be publicly available and could be returned in a web browser search.
ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
All registrants must submit an abstract along with their registration information and oral video presentation. An abstract is a paper used in academic research to summarize a completed study or other project. If done well, it makes the reader want to learn more about your research.
- Students must submit completed abstracts to their faculty mentor/sponsor for his/her final approval.
- Students may only register for one presentation.
- The student registering must be the presenter (no substitution allowed except for emergencies)
- Only one registration per project (multiple students cannot give separate presentations on the same project.)
- Abstracts that do not comply with the guidelines may be rejected.

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
ASRF 2021 will host only video-based oral presentations. Due to the Forum's virtual format poster presentations will not be accepted.
- Presentations must be recorded or uploaded in Microsoft Stream and embedded in Digital
Commons during the registration window.
- You may prepare your video presentation in a way that best represents your research.
- PowerPoints could be a single slide or a series of slides.
- Presentations are limited to 10 minutes in length.
- Presentations will appear on the participant’s Digital Commons abstract page for judging.
- Judging will take place asynchronously. Participants will not be present during the judging process but will be contacted for questions through the Microsoft Stream application.
- Awardees will be asked to submit a photo for publication on the ASRF Website.
