Staff Counselor

Micah, a part-time staff member at the Counseling Center, was raised in northeast Texas. He spent twenty years there before pursuing an undergraduate degree in Pensacola, FL. After switching majors from Marine Biology, he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in General Psychology. Micah then pursued his Master's of Counseling with a concentration in Couples and Family Counseling in 2016. While maintaining his job as a recreational raft and cave guide for six years, Micah began to provide counseling services in Johnson City at his private practice, New Growth Counseling, in 2017. He joined the Counseling Center at ETSU in the fall of 2018. Micah's professional interests include intimacy issues, relational conflict, depression, isolation, social anxiety, general anxiety, grief, loss, life transition, sexuality, identity, shame and trauma. He aims to provide people with a safe and nurturing environment to explore and give voice to their vulnerabilities. He states, "With a world that can be quite unsettling at times, the vision I have is to afford a place where time appears to stand still; a setting in which a person has room to breathe and exist without expectation. This new experience is what I strive to provide for every person that walks into my office." In his free time, Micah enjoys working on creative projects in photography, music and writing. He also likes watching e-sports tournaments, participating in golf, rafting and paddle boarding. Other current curiosities include cartography and investing.
