Assistant Director for Outreach

Mina is originally from Tyler, Texas, but grew up on the sunny beaches of Galveston Island. She earned a bachelors degree in history from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and a masters degree in Social Work from ETSU.  Early in her career she worked for The C.V. Mosby Publishing Company as a marketing coordinator for health publications, and then left the workforce to make a full-time commitment to her family. Mina has always been fascinated by what it means to be fully human. She returned to school to pursue this interest when her children were grown. After completing an internship at The Counseling Center, she solidified an interest in helping students of all ages discover their resiliency and strengths. Working with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, sports performance and questions about identity, purpose and the meaning of life are Mina's specialties. In addition, she has a keen interest in promoting healthy lifestyle choices, believing that the body and the mind cannot be separated.  She has received specialized training in mindfulness, body-based therapies, EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy--especially for substance abuse and anxiety disorders. Mina is the mother of three adult sons. In reference to raising boys she says, "Nothing you can do will surprise me!"  She and her husband, Randy, are currently parenting two "fur babies," Brynne (Corgi) and Xander (Wirehired Pointing Griffon).  In her free time she enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, watching sports and participating in a variety of fitness activities. She also maintains her commitment to local community service by active membership in the Johnson City Morning Rotary Club.
