Congratulations to our UH Golf team, Back-to-back-to-back TSSAA District 1 Golf Small School champions.
The 2019 University High golf team had another successful season last fall. The boys team captured its third consecutive District Tournament Championship in September at Elizabethton Golf Course. Lucas Lowe, a new member to the squad this season, led the team by carding a 79. Matthew Carter, a member of the golf team all four of his years in high school, followed closely at 80, as did freshman Garrett Gentry. Daxx Carr chipped in an 84, and Ayden Connell finished with an 88. The team total of 323 finished 19 strokes better than the second-place team. Lucas was named MVP of the District, with both Matthew and Garrett being named to the All-District Tournament team. The following week, the Bucs participated in the Regional Tournament, finishing second.
Lucas also led the Bucs in scoring average during the regular season with an impressive nine-hole average of 38. Daxx also played extremely well, averaging 39. Along with Lucas, Matthew, Garrett, Daxx and Ayden, other team members this season included Vijay Ananthula, Jaxson Williams, Ben Vargo, Wes Estes, and Hank Berning. We also had two girls who participated, 8th-grader Chloe Ganger and freshman Quinn Scheller. Our girls team gained lots of valuable experience, and look to continue to improve moving into the 2020 season.
