President's Message
Welcome to the start of an exciting new year. The campus is abuzz with excitement as the largest freshman class in ETSU’s history embarks on their higher education journey. We, Karen Sullivan and Christel Young invite you to partner with us as we endeavor to raise our organizational standards for collaboration, scholarship, and service. There is much work to be done and we cannot do it without each of you. We need your input and active participation.
"It shall be the mission of the BFSA to provide an atmosphere of cultural and social networking among the black faculty and staff of ETSU. It shall be the mission of the organization to aid in the recruitment and welcoming of black faculty, staff, and students, to a supportive network for new and continuing black faculty, staff, and students, and to improve the retention and quality of life of African-Americans and others at ETSU through the development of a multicultural perspective."
Given our mission statement above, we appeal to you to become a financial and actively engaged member of YOUR organization. The annual membership dues are still unchanged at $25.00 - $5 of which is deposited into a separate account that is used for our student textbook scholarship (e.g., to help purchase textbooks). The remainder of the dues is deposited into the general operating fund to help cover the costs of BFSA-sponsored activities, acknowledgment for members who experience the loss of a loved one, and member socials.
Kindly complete the membership form (click "Forms" in the left margin) and forward it along with your dues (make checks payable to BFSA) to Mrs. Wilma Fields Smith, BFSA treasurer, at campus Box 70733. Should you have any questions concerning dues, Mrs. Smith may be reached at 423-439-4305 or Smithwd2@etsu.edu. If we can support you in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out. You may also contact us with questions, suggestions, or concerns. We look forward to seeing you at our general body meetings held on the second Thursdays of each month beginning in September.
Warm regards,
Karen Sullivan and Christel Young, Ed.D.
