Pioneer Experience
For the Pioneer Experience, students will spend several days at ETSU’s remarkable Valleybrook facility in an intensive hands-on learning environment. They will be challenged to take the role of the first settlers who moved into Tennessee in the eighteenth century: What skills did they need to survive? What kind of shelter did they build? What tools did they have to master? Instead of just reading about these skills, students will learn and apply them. While the skills were essential to the early settlers, they are still relevant today: How would you live if you were displaced by a natural disaster? What skills would you have that could help you improve the quality of life of people living in isolated and low-resource areas?
