Each December, approximately 150 students and faculty convene in the Washington, D.C., area for the annual Appalachian Collegiate Research Initiative (ACRI) Symposium. This three-day event features student-project presentations, discussions of community issues, poster presentations, and opportunities for students and faculty from up to 16 colleges and universities, located throughout the Appalachian region, to interact and share ideas.
The conference also gives ARC administrators and staff an opportunity to learn about diverse issues and needs within specific Appalachian communities, and, most importantly, students propose solutions to problems and explore ways to meet the needs of these individual communities.
The ACRI is funded in part with ARC grant funds and in part with in-kind contributions
made by each participating institution.
