In the early 1900s when railway was the fasting growing form of transportation, the lantern industry boomed. John McGregor Adams, a successful salesman and William Westlake, the inventor of the removable globe lantern, joined forces to create the Adams and Westlake Company (Adlake). It became the most successful railroad lantern company in the United States and is still in existence today.
