The School of Science, Engineering, and Math at ETSU offers a thriving academic environment for students who want to shape the future of science and technology.
Whether you're passionate about the science of data, robotics, flood plains, or the Milky Way, you'll learn about the wonders of the world and develop cutting-edge solutions to global challenges. You'll be equipped to make a difference in our region and beyond.
The Center of Excellence in Paleontology oversees scientific research for the Gray Fossil Site, the only known fossil site of its age in our region.
For over a decade, the Department of Biological Sciences has livestreamed active American bald eagle nests in Johnson City and Bluff City.
ETSU's multidisciplinary Applied Data Science Master’s Degree Program helps students gain valuable hands-on experience with real data

CUTTING EDGE RESEARCH AND HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
As far as he knows, Alson Ovando is the only Belizean to ever pursue paleontology
as a career path and the only one to work in the field of vertebrate paleontology.
“What we're finding in my research is that the ecosystems of Belize are hundreds of thousands of years old, and this is the first time the world will be learning about what life was like in Belize during the Pleistocene. It’s going to be a whole world of new knowledge and opportunities I need to share with my country, and that’s what I want for my life’s career.”
PREPARATION FOR IN-DEMAND CAREERS
The School of Science, Engineering, and Math at ETSU prepares students to lead in fields that shape the future of science and technology. With hands-on training at the core of our programs, students gain practical experience in areas like robotics, data science, environmental studies, and astronomy. Our faculty bring expertise and passion to every classroom, ensuring you’ll graduate with the skills to tackle global challenges and make a tangible impact in our region and beyond.
Whether you dream of designing innovative technologies, analyzing complex data, or addressing critical environmental concerns, our programs equip you for high-paying, in-demand careers.
