Congratulations to the 30 new students who have committed to joining the second cohort of the BlueSky Institute program at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BlueCross) and East Tennessee State University (ETSU) to pursue their passion for technology! In a ceremony at BlueCross headquarters on April 22nd, these students formally committed to joining the next incoming class at the BlueSky Institute.

The BlueSky Institute is a workforce development venture between BlueCross and ETSU that aims to foster the advanced technology talent needed to serve customers, communities, and business partners, with a particular emphasis on engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds. This program offers the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in Computing and a job offer in just over two years. Students in the program will complete an accelerated version of ETSU’s accredited Computing curriculum and gain real-world experience with technology and professional mentorships at BlueCross.
The students of the second cohort will join the inaugural class at the BlueSky Institute facility located within the BlueCross Cameron Hill headquarters in August. The addition of new students will double the size of the program, demonstrating its growing popularity and success.
Dr. Brian Bennett, chair and associate professor for the Department of Computing at ETSU, said, “We’re proud to be the educational partner for this initiative, which will continue to expand career opportunities for people across our region.” With the addition of the third cohort in fall 2024, the program will reach its maximum planned size of around 100 students, further expanding career opportunities and fostering advanced technology talent.
