Over the course of this academic year, a Business & Technology team has been working
with architectural firm Clark Nexsen to explore a redesign and renovation of Sam Wilson
Hall. The goal is to have a redesigned Sam Wilson Hall that will better enable the
College to achieve our goals, particularly goals around interdisciplinary academic
program creation and implementation, interdisciplinary research, and engagement with
the regional business community to drive economic development. The proposed newly
renovated facility will add over 30,000 addition sq. ft to Sam Wilson Hall.
A goal is for each department within the College of Business & Technology to have
some stake and involvement in the new facility.
AFG Chair Jim Harlan, who has extensive experience in building development and construction, has led the initial concept development phase of the project in collaboration with college leadership and Clark Nexsen. ETSU will submit the renovation of Sam Wilson Hall to the state of Tennessee as the University’s institutional construction request for 2023. Dean Pittarese, Assistant Dean Kristy Buchanan, and AFG Chair Jim Harlan will be working on the proposal for the project with individuals from Clark Nexsen and ETSU Facilities.
While initial conceptual design work has been done, detailed design will not commence
until we have state approval to move forward with the project. This project was selected by the University based on the potential for project approval.
The proposal will be submitted to the state in July 2023 and will be scored for potential
implementation alongside other state construction projects. The University and College
leadership have high hopes about the project being approved in the near future.
While we may not receive approval in 2023, we should receive feedback on how to improve the proposal to resubmit in 2024.
