Administrative Endorsement


The Ed.D. concentration in Administrative Endorsement prepares candidates for licensure as a school principal, specifically the Instructional Leader License-Beginning (ILL-B). This qualifies graduates to serve as school principals, assistant principals, and supervisors in various capacities. Graduates will exit the program with knowledge of leadership, change theory, school law, curriculum development, data analysis, and strategic planning. Successful completion of this program, a minimum of three years successful teaching experience, and the state required assessment lead to the Tennessee Instructional Leader-Beginning license. Candidates who apply to the Ed.D. can earn the Ed.S. enroute to the Ed.D.

Curriculum

The Ed.D. consists of six 6-credit courses for licensure and four additional 3- credit courses, plus a minimum of 12 credits of dissertation research over two semesters with a completed dissertation.
Candidates move through the licensure program in a cohort and we begin a new cohort every January.
Ed.D. candidates can begin coursework in the summer or fall before cohort begins or finish additional coursework after licensure coursework is complete.
Courses for licensure are Interpersonal Relations, Emerging Perspectives Influencing School, Professional Needs of Individuals and Groups, Developing Learners through Instructional Leadership, Implementation Strategies, and Shaping the Quality and Character of the Institution.
Everyone who teaches these courses has served as a school principal.
Additional courses required for the Ed.D. are Leadership Studies, Research, Educational Statistics, and Qualitative Research.

Internships embedded in the coursework total 540 hours and include district office; elementary, middle, and high school; and community agency settings. Application

To qualify for this concentration you must have a teaching license and at least two years successful teaching experience. Your application will require four references, one of whom must be your director or superintendent of schools. Applications will be accepted any time but must be complete by November in order to begin the Cohort that begins every January.
