Medical Student Academic Opportunities Funding Policy
This policy outlines the guidelines for allocating funds to support the academic, professional, and personal development of medical students. Funds, sourced from student fees, are available for research support, educational seminars, and international mission rotations that align with the medical curriculum. Eligible students in good academic standing can apply for funding for activities such as attending conferences, publishing research, and organizing seminars. Funding limits and caps will be determined based on available resources, and students must use other available support before applying. Disbursement can be through reimbursements or direct payments, with receipts required, and a report on the outcomes must be submitted within 60 days of the activity. The policy is overseen by a fund administrator and will be reviewed annually.
Application Process
Submission:
For research posters/presentations, students should submit an abstract first for the specific meeting prior to submitting to that meeting for review; upon approval by the clinical research office, the student can submit the abstract to the meeting.
...if accepted,
Submit the final poster so that it can be printed by the BMC office and so that travel can be arranged.
For other proposed projects/activities, students must submit a detailed application,
including:
A description of the activity or need (e.g., research project, seminar, mission rotation).
An itemized budget outlining anticipated costs.
A statement of purpose explaining how the funding will support their education or
professional development.
Review: Applications will be evaluated by a designated committee based on merit, feasibility,
and alignment with the policy’s objectives.
Approval: Approved applicants will receive written notification with instructions for accessing funds.

Clinical Research Coordinators

Exploring what a clinical research coordinator can do for you!
Having a plan to conduct research related to potential or awarded funding is important. A clinical research coordinator can be a meaningful piece of your research plan design and implementation of human subject research involving specimen collection.
We have found the services of a clinical research coordinator to be very valuable in securing human subject consent, procuring specimens, assisting with the IRB process, and other tasks essential to the efficient accomplishment of project goals.
We encourage you to consider writing a new CRC position or a portion of a new CRC position into your upcoming grants. If you’re interested in writing this into a current or future grant, we can help by providing a sample job description to get you started, assist in identifying potential CRC roles in planned research help with the process of adding a CRC to your budget, and link you with other scientists interested in securing a CRC in order to coordinate your proposals and equitably divide a new CRC’s responsibilities.
