JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 5, 2022) – Jenny Lockmiller has been named director of University Career Services at East Tennessee State University.
The director oversees a wide range of services for ETSU undergraduate, graduate students
and alumni. This includes career planning, internships and experiential learning,
job searches and employment opportunities. The office of career services maintains
strong relationships with national and local employers, and advances ETSU’s goal of
fostering economic development in the region.
Lockmiller has been with ETSU since 2017 where she initially served as the director
of Workforce Operations before advancing to Title I Career Services director for the
American Job Center (AJCs) system in Northeast Tennessee. She has managed over $6
million in grants for local, state and federal initiatives. AJCs, a federally funded
workforce initiative, enable citizens to make seamless transitions to the world of
work, whether they are first-time job seekers, recent graduates or experienced workers
wishing to upgrade their skills.
“I am very pleased that Jenny Lockmiller will be ETSU’s next director of Career Services,”
said Dr. Joe Sherlin, vice president of Student Life and Enrollment. “Our office of
career services is central to our University’s commitment to our students, alumni
and employer partners.”
Lockmiller holds a B.S. degree in history from Tennessee State University and is an
ETSU alumna, having earned a Master of Arts in Education here.
“Helping students prepare for and obtain good jobs is at the heart of ETSU’s mission
to improve the quality of life of the people of our region,” added Dr. Bill Kirkwood,
associate vice president of Student Life and Enrollment. “I'm delighted that Jenny
Lockmiller, who has longstanding experience serving the people of our region and working
in close partnership with regional employers, will serve as our director of Career
Services.”
Lockmiller also exemplifies ETSU’s commitment to community engagement. She is a member
of the Johnson City Regional Planning Commission and is past president and a current
member of Johnson City’s Blue Plum Organization.
