National employment organizations taking notice of ETSU

Long recognized as one of the major employers in Northeast Tennessee, ETSU is gaining national recognition as a great place to work.

ETSU earned several major listings in 2024:

  • The university was one of 76 institutions in the Chronicle of Higher Education annual “Great Colleges to Work For®” report. ETSU was recognized for its strong showing in the categories of Confidence in Senior Leadership, Shared Governance, Faculty Experience, and Facilities, Workspace, and Security.
  • ETSU is one of “America’s Best-in-State Employers,” according to Forbes, a recognition the university has received three consecutive years, placing ETSU among the top employers in Tennessee. The university employs at least 500 people.
  • Forbes also named ETSU among “America’s Best Employers for Women,” based on an independent survey of 15,000 U.S. working women at companies with at least 1,000 employees. Women make up 59% of ETSU’s workforce, according to Ken Brown, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.

ETSU has approximately 2,400 regular employees.

“The ‘Great Colleges to Work For’ designation is a testament to the thriving community we are building together, making our university a better place to work,” said ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland.

“The first tenet of ETSU’s core values is that people come first, are treated with dignity and respect, and are encouraged to achieve their full potential,” said Chief Operating Officer Jeremy Ross. He said the university promotes a healthy work/life balance and offers benefits and services that facilitate the highest health and well-being of employees and their families.
