ETSU retirees are immediately eligible for applicable perks and discounts listed below. You do not have to be a member of the ETSU Retirees Association to enjoy these benefits but membership to the ETSURA offers additional opportunities for keeping connected. Your ETSU Retiree Perks
Recreation
Retirees have full access to the Center for Physical Activity at the following fee schedule: (1) Retirees of ETSU - no charge; (2) Spouses of retirees of ETSU - same fee as spouses of active employees; (3) Members of the ETSURA who are not retirees but who qualify for membership in ETSURA - same fee as spouses of active employees. Rental of camping and other outdoor gear is available. For more information regarding available hours or to reserve facilities, call the Intramural Office. (423) 439-5316.
Medical Services
Family Medicine Clinics - The Family Medicine clinics are located in Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol. We provide complete medical care for patients of all age groups, for both male and female, for health promotion and wellness and for medical conditions involving any organ system. The Family Medicine clinics accept most types of health insurance. Our clinics will accept assignment for all Medicare patients and will also file secondary insurance for all Medicare patients.
Dental Hygiene Clinic - Teeth will be cleaned at no charge for university retirees. X-rays will be taken free of charge; however, there is a nominal charge if these are carried out of the clinic. Appointments are required. (423) 439-4514.
Photo I.D.s
ETSU retirees/spouses are eligible and encouraged to have their photo I.D.s taken in the D.P. Culp University Center (423) 439-4286. ID's are available for purchase directly from the ID Center, second floor, D.P. Culp Center, for a nominal fee. The name tag will have the retiree/spouse's photograph with the designation "Retiree." No social security number will be on the name tag.
Business Discounts
Retirees and their family members may register free of charge for the Perks Network which offers in-store and online discounts at hundreds of businesses. For more information and instructions on how to register, visit the Human Resources Business Discounts page.
Campus Parking
A retiree parking permit, valid for the academic school year, is available free of charge from Parking Services, 132 Stout Drive. The permit allows parking in faculty/staff parking areas. All parking regulations must be observed. Those retirees returning to post-retirement employment on campus must purchase a regular employee parking decal at full price. Please Note: A free parking permit is only available to retirees. Non-retiree ETSURA members must purchase a decal.
Medical Insurance
All covered employees who meet the qualifications may continue medical insurance at retirement for themselves and covered eligible dependents. Retirees may retain coverage until they are eligible for Medicare. Covered eligible dependents under age 65 will be allowed to continue coverage until age 65 or they become Medicare eligible. Retirees or covered dependents who are eligible for Medicare will be eligible for a State Medicare Supplemental Plan (Medigap).
Covered employees who meet the qualifications may be eligible to continue other benefits upon retirement. Please contact Human Resources at (423) 439-4457 to schedule your confidential, informative meeting.
University Bookstore
ETSU retirees enjoy a discount of 10% on textbooks purchased for personal use and 20% on all other merchandise except adopted textbooks, special orders, sale books, class and alumni rings, computer software, computer hardware, periodicals, discounted merchandise, stamps, and health and beauty aids. Sherrod Library
Retired ETSU faculty without Emeritus/Emerita status and retired staff with a Retiree ETSU ID can borrow Sherrod Library materials and request a complimentary Library Guest card for access to library databases while in the Sherrod Library. A Library Guest card is valid for one year from date of issue, renewable provided the user's library account is in good standing, and contact information (email in particular) is current. Library Guest cardholders are not eligible for interlibrary loan services or access to databases from home.
Education Assistance for Retired Employees
Faculty or Administrative/Professional Staff Tuition or Maintenance Fee Reimbursement Programs - Employees who retire with at least 10 years of service maintain eligibility under this program.
Employee Audit Program - Employees who retire with at least 10 years of service immediately preceding retirement maintain eligibility under this program.
Clerical and Support Staff Tuition or Maintenance Fee Payment Reimbursement Program - Employees who retire with at least 10 years of service maintain eligibility under this program.
Education Assistance - Employees 65 and Above Program
Active and retired state employees who are or will be age 65 and above during the academic term in which they begin classes and who reside in Tennessee are eligible to enroll in courses at a reduced rate.
Education Assistance for Spouses and Dependent Children of TBR Employees
The following groups are eligible under this program (Undergraduate courses only) :
- Spouses of employees having 10 years or more of continuous full-time service within the Regents system immediately preceding retirement or death are eligible for the fee discount for five years from the death or retirement of the employee, whichever shall occur first. Dependent children of such employees are eligible for the discount through age 26.
- Spouses and dependent children of employees having less than 10 years of full-time continuous service within the Regents system immediately preceding retirement or death are eligible for the fee discount for 2 years from the date of death or retirement of the employee, whichever shall occur first. Dependent children of such employees are eligible for the discount through age 26.
- Spouses and dependent children of employees who had 10 or more years of regular continuous part-time service immediately preceding retirement or death are eligible for the fee discount on a pro rata basis for 2 years from the date of death or retirement of the employee. The pro rata discount will be based on the percent of effort worked by the employee at the time of retirement or death.
